A Weeks Worth !

Image
Pat and I have been on a short vacation, and I have not written much on my Blog. So starting back before we left is where I will start. My son-law Doug parents came down for a short visit and Pat and Doug's mom Judi had a great visit. They went to lunch at Peaches and chatted, girl talk I'm sure. Pat said she had a great time with Judi, we dearly love them I am sure that Darenda know s how lucky she is to have them as in-laws. As the saying goes the acorn does not fall far from the tree, I am sure that they are the reason that Doug turned out to be as great as he is, we love him as equally. We went to the Florida Mississippi (see info below) and saw another lost by the Gators. I am not going to talk about them too much. The Gator’s are having a down season as most folks know. But I always look for the silver lining in everything. The picture you see is of Erin Andrews, she is a commentator for ESPN and a Gator Alum. That is pretty much of the high light. Mississippi State (5-2...

Windy Friday

Image
Pat had planned a fishing trip for the boys as they were out of school on Friday. It did not pan out as planned for all of us. First, Luke had a Doctor's appointment and we were to pick him up at the dock when he was done. Then as we had suspected it was really windy and rough out in the bay. The water was so churned up that you could not see the bait. I threw my net several times over my chum but it was to no avail. We then left that spot and went to our Pin fish hole and fished for them. Pat and Tyler caught about 15 hand size pins and we headed to our Grouper spot. It was so rough that the water was flying over the bow of the pontoon so we turned around and headed back in. We decided to fish for more Pins until Luke called us to pick him up. Pat and Tyler caught 35 Pins and then the wind got worse. Luke was running late so we called them and told them we were coming back in. Luke was sad but Maw Maw took him shopping which took Care of it all. Then they spent the night which p...

Read and Weep!

If George W. Bush had doubled the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had criticized a state law that he admitted he never even read, would you think that he is just an ignorant hot head? If George W. Bush joined the country of Mexico and sued a state in the United States to force that state to continue to allow illegal immigration, would you question his patriotism and wonder who's side he was on? If George W. Bush had put 87000 workers out of work by arbitrarily placing a moratorium on offshore oil drilling on companies that have one of the best safety records of any industry because one company had an accident would you have agreed? If George W. Bush had used a forged document as the basis of the moratorium that would render 87000 American workers unemployed would you support him? ...

Bama Week End Part two

Image
All was not lost last week in the great state of Alabama as once more I got to spend some time with the son of a man that I respect. A year ago I met this man at a Florida football game in Gainesville and got to see him again in Alabama. His father ran for President of the United States years ago. As a young fellow I went downtown Bradenton to hear him speak. While I did not agree with some of his political positions I did admire him for standing up for his beliefs. ( Just as John F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin L King and Bobby Kennedy did.) The one position that he stood tall for was he did not believe in the Federal Government running your life. One only needs to look and see where we are today, how right was he?! As you read a portion of his Bio you will see that he has some family ties in Bradenton . He is married to the sister of Caleb Grimes whom is my daughter Darenda's boss. This man has a book that will be out soon and I can't wait until I can read it. Now, you are aski...

Bama Week End

Image
I am so sorry for my few followers that I have not blogged lately. I came back from Alabama with a chest cold and at my age it whips ya! Yes, we went to Tuscaloosa to watch Fla and Bama play football. The weather was just beautiful at game time and made for a nice night. Bama did what I had expected, they kicked the Gators butt. This was Luke's first Bama football game and Tyler's 2nd. I must say that they were really troopers. Tyler went early with his dad and Brian to set up the tail gate stuff. I think they left about 6 or 6:30 am that morning. This was for a 7 PM football game which made for a long day for them. But Tyler will suffer pain and sweat to do things with his dad, which is great. They both did very well staying with the crowd all day. Doug and Darenda had some friends come by and visit them which was great. The people that I know well were Brian and Sherrie and Kim and John. Kim and her family came over for the tail gate party from Jackson Miss. They did not ...

Another Sports Week End!

Image
The sports started with Luke playing soccer on Thursday night. They won again with Luke scoring two goals and having two assist. Luke seems to really take his soccer serious and enjoys it very much. This may be his sport to play in HS and else where. The league that he plays in is on Anna Maria Island, little bit of a drive but well worth it. He plays again on Tuesday night and we will be there. No. 9 Florida routs Kentucky again, 48-14 Trey Burton switched numbers this week, going from 13 to 8. Maybe he should have put on Florida's familiar No. 15. He sure looked like Tim Tebow . A smaller, faster version anyway. Burton scored six touchdowns, breaking the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner's school record, and the ninth-ranked Gators beat Kentucky for the 24 th consecutive time, 48-14 Saturday night. I am not sure just how good the Gators are yet, but we Will find out this Saturday in Tuscaloosa. The Gator team did put it all together, they had a great team effort with swarming defe...
