"Tribute to Heros"

Image
Friday afternoon I attended a luncheon honors our Public Service hero's, Fireman, Military and EMS workers. We watched videos of past 911 events and some videos of the event itself. I will never forget that day when our country was attacked. The lives of everyone US citizens was changed in some way. I hope that we have also proved that if you mess with us we will stand tall and react. "God Bless America" ! As you can see my book case runnith over, I will be building a new and bigger one to replace it with. I really enjoy my reading, I am a big fan of James Patterson, John Grisham, Harlan Cobin and Linwood Barclay. They are my favorite authors that I read, About the only things that are going on are Manatee and Florida football. The kids will be starting soccer soon and that will be great. I hope it cools off a little before it starts. As you also can see I like to watch...

"Well" It's about time !

Yes I know I have not been writing my Blog like I should have. I could give you some excuses but they would not be the truth. It has been a combination of not feeling like it and being on vacation and of course being ever so busy at City Hall....talk about stretching the truth...ha CAPT GLENN DAVIS This has really been a bad year for some of my friends in the fire service. We lost our Fire Chief here in Bradenton in January. I went to his memorial service at the Florida Fire Chiefs meeting in July. There were also three more chiefs that I know that had passed away also. And then here locally we have lost two men that I worked with for years. Capt Glenn Davis who past away last month. Then I read in the paper that Bill Juregens who I went to high school with and also worked with him on the FD past away, he live in Tenn. Pat and I went off for a little vacation in the mountains. We visited with Gary and Harriett Gregory in NC. We had a nice time as we always do when we are with them. I t...

Team Work is The Answer!

Pat and I have always enjoyed working in our yard and keeping it nice. We are now letting our Grandson Tyler mow our yard and he does a wonderful job. I still do the edging and weed eating while Pat continues to be the weed puller and pruner of the plants and picker upper of stuff! This week however, Tyler is on vacation enjoying his last days of freedom before school starts. He will be a sophomore at Manatee High School this year.Yipes! Pat mowed the yard on Wednesday and almost made it before the rain started. She mowed about 98% of what needed to be mowed. On Thursday I finished the mowing and the did the weed eating. Today I edged and then blew off the street and patio of grass clippings. I wanted to share this with you as I think we have a beautiful yard and we are proud of it. We also do our own fertilizing and insect treating of our lawn. That is something we used to hire out but I was never satisfied with...

Another Mountain Climbed

First let me say, Sue Shafer if you are reading this I am starting my diet on Sunday! I have eaten tomato gravy and biscuits at my brother-law Bob Garrison home many times. But I have never made it at my home for myself or anyone else. I do make sausage gravy a few times a year and that seems to go over good.(at least it is all eaten). Last year I promised my son-law Doug that I would make some tomato gravy and biscuits while we were in the mountains. I never did, just made the sausage gravy . The other day I told Doug I was going to make it this year, he reminded me, "that is what you said last year". So.... I thought I better make a run at it to see if I could make it. You see the total operation, chef Gene at his best.(eating) As I was cooking my sweet bride told me I better add some water, which I did. Thank goodness for having a real cook around to supervise. As you can see by the results and the clean dish I liked it. But the real test will be when Doug eats it ...

Summer in Full Swing

Luke continues to lead his team in goals scored as his team is in first place at this time. We watch him play every Monday and Wednesday night. Last night he scored 4 out of the 5 goals that his team scored. Of course if you ask the coach he will tell you its all about coaching. Last week end Pat and I went to the Florida Fire Chief's conference in Naples (Marco Island). We enjoyed the Past Presidents luncheon and the Prayer Breakfast. Sunday after the breakfast they had a memorial service for 14 Fire Chiefs who passed away since the last time they met. I received and email today from a lady who was warning us to keep off the Bradenton streets. She stated their was new danger on Bradentons streets. I first said geeeeeez here we go again another crack pot. I was greeted by a picture of my oldest grandson Tyler's picture. He has gotten his drivers permit and it was his mother letting the world know. I think I will tell some stories about when I taught here to drive... Take care ...
