BRADENTON — Marquis Green sprinted through the humid air filling Hawkins Stadium on Friday, through Manatee’s defense and into the end zone.
It was midway through the third quarter and Green, along with the rest of the Palmetto Tigers, were hanging with the highly touted Hurricanes.
Less than five minutes later, however, they were not. Manatee’s explosiveness was enough to get the Canes past Palmetto 56-36 in a performance that earned high praise from Tigers coach Dave Marino.
The picture on the left is running back Mike Blakely and on the right is OB Cord Sandburg. They are game breakers for Manatee, Mike is a senior and Cord is a Sophomore. It looks to be an exciting year for the Canes, we will see as they play Southeast next week. Southeast has always been a spoiler for Manatee.
The No. 8 Florida Gators' first meeting with in-state opponent the University of South Florida Bulls resulted in a 38-14 victory for the Gators in front of a crowd of 90,612. The win extended the Gators regular season win streak to 22 games.

As you can see this was my weekend, Friday night HS football and Saturday afternoon and all day college football. That will be my weekends for several weeks. Pat and I did opt not to go to the Gator game as it said it would be a hot day. And looking at the people in attendance, it was dreadfully hot.
