Another Mountain Climbed

Image
First let me say, Sue Shafer if you are reading this I am starting my diet on Sunday! I have eaten tomato gravy and biscuits at my brother-law Bob Garrison home many times. But I have never made it at my home for myself or anyone else. I do make sausage gravy a few times a year and that seems to go over good.(at least it is all eaten). Last year I promised my son-law Doug that I would make some tomato gravy and biscuits while we were in the mountains. I never did, just made the sausage gravy . The other day I told Doug I was going to make it this year, he reminded me, "that is what you said last year". So.... I thought I better make a run at it to see if I could make it. You see the total operation, chef Gene at his best.(eating) As I was cooking my sweet bride told me I better add some water, which I did. Thank goodness for having a real cook around to supervise. As you can see by the results and the clean dish I liked it. But the real test will be when Doug eats it ...

Summer in Full Swing

Image
Luke continues to lead his team in goals scored as his team is in first place at this time. We watch him play every Monday and Wednesday night. Last night he scored 4 out of the 5 goals that his team scored. Of course if you ask the coach he will tell you its all about coaching. Last week end Pat and I went to the Florida Fire Chief's conference in Naples (Marco Island). We enjoyed the Past Presidents luncheon and the Prayer Breakfast. Sunday after the breakfast they had a memorial service for 14 Fire Chiefs who passed away since the last time they met. I received and email today from a lady who was warning us to keep off the Bradenton streets. She stated their was new danger on Bradentons streets. I first said geeeeeez here we go again another crack pot. I was greeted by a picture of my oldest grandson Tyler's picture. He has gotten his drivers permit and it was his mother letting the world know. I think I will tell some stories about when I taught here to drive... Take care ...

Soccer Time

So far this summer has been pretty active for the kids, which makes it active for everyone. Tyler and Luke both took golf lesson at the country club for several weeks. Tyler went to Atlanta for a mission trip with his youth group from church. Luke and Tyler both have attended summer bible school. Tyler is presently in Tuscaloosa Alabama with his mom. Darenda went to a recruiting class as she recruits in the Bradenton area. Tyler went along and was given a tour of the college. They both were going to donate some labor in the Tornado damaged area but it was cancelled because of bad weather. Luke is presently playing indoor soccer at the Island youth center. Doug is coaching and Tyler helps out with what ever is needed. Luke is doing really well as he has scored many goals in their first three games, his team is in first place. Of course with Coach Doug coaching them up they better win, ha. There was a bad call the other night and by Doug's expression as you can see the ump was...

Fishing Trip Number Two "4th of July"

Image
Well, I am really excited about putting this Blog together. I took my son-in-law and his beautiful wife and sons fishing along with his brother Drew and his beautiful wife and son. We all had a great time I believe the kids really enjoyed it. Fishing was not all that great but the fellowship was wonderful. Luke caught the only shark of the day, the tide was wrong and the water was dirty. Maybe next time we can really pull a few monsters into the boat. Drew was able to catch a few shots with his camera. I am proud to show you the slide show he put together for us to see. Click here... http://www.pbase.com/dmarvin/sharkhunting2011&view= slideshow Have a Blessed day and be Blessed. "Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” - Jeremiah 32:17

4th Of July Week

Image
Our daughter Sandy and her husband James spent the week of the 4th with us and we had a great time. As you can see we got some fishing in, we went out twice and had a ball. As you can see we caught a variety of fish. We caught Black Tip Shark, Hammerhead Shark, Trout, Cat Fish, Blow Fish, Snapper and Grouper. James got his first taste of what a cat fish sting is all about. I also received a few stings so all was shared. I was able to make my son-law feel humble, I stuck a circle hook into my finger and I made him pull it out with pliers. I know it hurt him more than it did me...yea right!!!!!. Sandy and James took a day to visit the St Pete\Tampa area. They settled into one of the Columbia restaurants for supper. We all went to a couple of Sandy's favorite restaurants, Demetrios and the Seafood Shack in Cortez while they were here. On the fourth we stayed home and grilled steaks which is my favorite food. James was able to get a few rounds of Texas Hold'um at "One Eyed...

What a Great Week End,

Image
I thought I better get the Blog done as I will be having my other eye done on Thursday. This past week I just had a grand time fishing with Pat and our good friends Wilburn & Peggy Newsome. Wilburn and I went down to Lake Okeechobee last Thursday morning. We spent the morning cleaning up the fish house and making beds. (fire dept training came in handy). Wilburn is a retired Battalion Chief from Bradenton. Peggy is retired from First Baptist Church of Bradenton, and you know Pat. Wilburn and I went bass fishing that afternoon and caught all we wanted. I could lie and tell you we caught at least 50, but we did not count them. The next morning we went early in the AM and were done by 10:30 as it was hot. But again we caught all we wanted, it was just great. The girls arrived at the lake house about 8 PM or so. We were so happy to see them as we had some one to turn over the maid work to...ha! We informed them that we would be getting up at 6 AM and would try to be on the lake by ...
