Paw Paws Place

Wow what a couple of days we have had, Thursday we watched Luke play basketball and Friday we took both boys fishing. The basket ball game is played out at the Anna Maria Island Youth Center. Luke is playing in the 7 & 8 year old division. Some of the players all played together on the football team a couple of months ago. They played well for their first game, and they were playing the team who has the best two players in the league. They got off to a slow start as it was 12 - 2 before you could take a deep breath. The Luke and his team mates got cranked up and scored 8 straight points and made it 12 - 10 at the half. Luke scored 4 of the 8 points for his team at that time. The 2nd half the other team came back and finally won the game with ease. Here are some pictures of Luke shooting and some are him playing defense as well. As you can see sports in the Marvin family is a special thing, especially for the kids. I can’t think of a sport that the boys do not or have not played. I would say that Doug is the driving force behind them loving sports especially soccer. In his younger days I am told that he was a great player. I know at one time Manatee HS ask him to be involved in their program. He has coached teams of all ages in the county and enjoyed every minute of it. If you ever have the privilege of going to their home and watch college football you will see what I mean. The living room looks like a big sports bar with three TV’s and three games. Here is a project that they family has completed this past week. As you can see it is a little soccer field for the kids to practice on. You also will see a big skate something for Tyler to skate on. By this Blog you will able to tell that I have too much time on my hands. I was thinking about how the "old Barber Shop" has changed for most men. (I think most men) When I was a Little guy living in Miami I use to get my hair cut by Miami Edison High School. The shop was located on NW 2 nd Ave and 62 street. Next door to it was a open beer garden with bright colors and lights. I remember the inside of the barber shop was hot and plenty of hair on the floor (I think they swept up at the end of the day). The only fans I remember were the type on a stand and they never were pointed at you. I don't remember the type of reading materials that were available, if there were no pictures I was in trouble ! I do remember the cigarette and cigar smoke and a lot of coughing. When I moved to Bradenton I started my haircuts downtown at Bill Howards dad's shop, I am not sure I remember the name, maybe Royal Palm or City Shop, Connie will let me know later and I will inse...

It has been a slow week for the Gallo's which is ok with me. Pat and I work some in the yard as one of our oak trees needed some pruning and trimming. Pat stayed out longer than I did as she loves working outside instead of just sitting around. She continued her quest on staying outside when she went to Doug an Darenda's home to help them. They were trimming a tree and cleaning up their back yard. Better her then me, I have finally made a decision to hire my yard mowing and etc out. I am not lazy as I have been doing that work since I was 10 years old. I just cannot keep up that stamina that I use to have and the heat just kills me. Yesterday I watched the Orange & Blue game on TV, noon game in Gainesville too hot for me. I must say that then Gator's were not impressive at all in my mind. Well this is better now than skip it all together. I left out a very important part of the trip, why I will never know. We left on Sunday morning Feb 20th to head back home, as always we always take back roads home. We ate breakfast in some little town in the Ga mountains, actually is was a brunch to me because it was about 10:45 AM. The food was great and I ate something a little different. It was called Red Link Sausage, I was a big shot and thought I know what I was ordering,,,"WRONG"! That stuff was terrible but I ate it and never said a word, man was it hot! We drove all the way to Valdosta that day, on the back roads which takes about two hours longer. It is always nicer to drive the back roads no stress like on the Interstate. We checked into the Holiday Inn Express and then went to supper. We all were rather tired so we parted company early and went to our rooms. Pat and I read for and hour or so then turn the lights out. We had the privilege of attending our grandson Luke's award day at school. He was surprised and happy to receive this award and we were happy also. As you can see by the picture that so were is parents. Luke is in the 2nd grade and growing very quickly as most kids are. As we watch our grand kids grow it just seems it is flying by. His brother Tyler is in High school and that just blows me away. Take care and be a Blessing to some one today.
