Changes are Good!

By this Blog you will able to tell that I have too much time on my hands. I was thinking about how the "old Barber Shop" has changed for most men. (I think most men) When I was a Little guy living in Miami I use to get my hair cut by Miami Edison High School. The shop was located on NW 2nd Ave and 62 street. Next door to it was a open beer garden with bright colors and lights. I remember the inside of the barber shop was hot and plenty of hair on the floor (I think they swept up at the end of the day). The only fans I remember were the type on a stand and they never were pointed at you. I don't remember the type of reading materials that were available, if there were no pictures I was in trouble! I do remember the cigarette and cigar smoke and a lot of coughing.

When I moved to Bradenton I started my haircuts downtown at Bill Howards dad's shop, I am not sure I remember the name, maybe Royal Palm or City Shop, Connie will let me know later and I will insert it. I then moved on to a shop named Southwind, the barbers name was Dan. He gave a mean DA cut, DA is short for Ducks A.. it was the best thing going for a Chick Magnet, you had to be careful not to roll your collar up to high and cover it. (wish I had enough hair now to get that again). Years later I moved to the Country Club Barber shop on Manatee Ave West. Rick Johns and Ed Chance were my barbers for years. (both are gone today) I remember Rick gave me a buzz cut and the next night we were at a Manatee Co Youth Football function and my wife Pat told him never to do that again (he never did) This shop was full of people who had lived in Bradenton for years. On Saturdays after Manatee played football you would always find the best QB's in town. I do remember the smoke filled room and newspapers and sports magazines. Rick was a caring barber he did two things that really blew my mind. If you had a headache he would give you a neck massage and if he saw a black head pimple in your ear he would take it out. The best part was the shaving of your neck with a razor, it always felt so clean and smoother after.

Now today's times: I now get my hair cuts at Mere Image Beauty Solon. The lady that cuts my hair is Terri and she does a great job dealing with what hair I have left. As you can see there is NO SMOKING and the magazines have changed dramatically, I read these! I get to see many ladies that I have known for years, some I went to school with and some just friends. Well I guess that is enough for me for the week.

Slow Week for the Gallo's

It has been a slow week for the Gallo's which is ok with me. Pat and I work some in the yard as one of our oak trees needed some pruning and trimming. Pat stayed out longer than I did as she loves working outside instead of just sitting around. She continued her quest on staying outside when she went to Doug an Darenda's home to help them. They were trimming a tree and cleaning up their back yard. Better her then me, I have finally made a decision to hire my yard mowing and etc out. I am not lazy as I have been doing that work since I was 10 years old. I just cannot keep up that stamina that I use to have and the heat just kills me. Yesterday I watched the Orange & Blue game on TV, noon game in Gainesville too hot for me. I must say that then Gator's were not impressive at all in my mind. Brantly looked terrible as he was 4 of 14 for 45 yards. We do have some good tight ends and running backs. I would say that coach Will Muschamps era started with a re-sounding "THUD"! The Gator baseball team did somewhat better as they beat Miss St 18 - 0, the week end has not been a total loss for Gator fans.

You have a Blessed weekend and be a Blessing to someone this week.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:6-8 )
