What a great start to a wonderful week end. Thursday was the first day the grand kids were out of school. Pat picked them up a little after 7 AM and met me at the boat launch. We piled in and headed for our favorite fishing spot. Luke asked if he could drive the boat to the location that we were heading to. He did tell me that I could guide him and he would get us there, so off we went.
We arrived very shortly at marker #9, this is where we catch our bait. Tyler, Pat and Luke scouted for me as we slowly drifted looking for signs of bait. Tyler spotted a good spot and we anchored. I started to chum and sure enough the bait was there. I handed the chum to Pat and I got out the cast net and started throwing it. It did not take too much time to catch all that we needed.
The next stop was where the kids really have a ball. We have this little spot that we let the kids catch sizable Pin Fish for bait. Tyler uses them for bait when he is fishing for sharks, which he loves to do. They caught about 6 really good size Pin Fish so we headed to our fishing spot.
You can see that we really did well fishing, and the weather was not bad. We caught Black Sea Bass, Black Tip Shark (Tyler) Mangrove Snapper, Yellow Tail and a variety of others. We had a few lines broke by big fish, especially Tyler. He had a Pin Fish on that was at least 1 lb for bait. Something really big hit it and all that was left was a portion of his head. We did keep the Black Sea Bass and the Snapper. I took them home and cleaned them and froze them. When we have a good size mess we will have the Marvin's over for a fish fry.
Luke asked if we could go back to the Pin Fish hole and fish again. So we headed back with Capt Luke driving the boat. The kids decided to have a contest catching the Pin Fish. I believe that they both caught at least 30 really big Pin Fish. Prior to starting Luke did tell us that this was catch and release.
When we got back to the boat dock Tyler ask me if he could drive the boat onto the trailer. He had asked me last time we went out if I would teach him. I must say that he did and excellent job doing it. Much, much better that I suspected. If you have ever tried it you know getting a 21 ft. Pontoon boat lined up with the current moving is a feat. "Good job Tyler" and "Good job Capt Luke". One other thing that I am really proud of , Tyler baits his own hook and now takes off his catch. He has really come a long way, I guess growing up what it is all about.
Our day finished of with a little excitement in the neighborhood last night. Pat and I went to bed about 10 PM, and soon after the phone rang. It was our neighborhood watch people calling us about a situation evolving. As Pat was talking on the phone I looked out my window and saw a cop car with flashing lights. So to make a long story short we had some reports of a Black man with one shoe and wearing shorts and believed to be armed walking in the neighborhood. The 2nd call said that there were now three men and one female and considered to be dangerous. Last call was, all is clear they have caught him and you may turn out your yard lights and be safe. Well today it urned out to be one man who assaulted two neighbors and they never caught him as yet.
Today Pat and I worked in the yard early before it got too hot. She weeded and I weed eated , edge and mowed half the yard. Pat mowed half of the yard as I git just a little too hot. Just like the last 47 + years, it is called team work.
